Successful Flight Test

EZ-Rocket Test Program Continues

Mojave, CA November 9, 2001: XCOR Aerospace today announced that it has successfully completed another EZ-Rocket flight test. The EZ-Rocket is a privately built rocket powered demonstration vehicle being used to develop routine operations of rocket-powered aircraft.

At 1130 hours today the EZ-Rocket took off from the Mojave Civilian Flight Test Center and climbed to an altitude of 8,610 feet before gliding back to Runway 30. The EZ-Rocket is powered by twin 400 pound thrust rocket engines designed and built by XCOR Aerospace. The flight had an engine run time of two minutes and twenty seconds and total flight time of nine minutes and seven seconds. This represents the highest performance to date.

This flight test was flown in preparation of official roll-out and public flight demonstration on Monday November 12, 2001 at Mojave airport at 10 AM.

EZ-Rocket Specifications

The EZ-Rocket is a modified Long-EZ homebuilt aircraft. The aircraft is powered by twin 400 lb thrust regeneratively cooled rocket engines. The EZ-Rocket includes an external composite fuel tank and an insulated internal aluminum liquid oxygen tank. The modifications were performed at XCOR Aerospace's Mojave, CA shop. Tests are performed at the Mojave Civilian Flight Test Center.
